By that logic...

Whilst homosexuals have a place in society and, in recent years, more social space, repealing Section 377A will be very contentious and may send a wrong signal that the government is encouraging and endorsing the homosexual lifestyle as part of our mainstream way of life."
This is the official government stand on why they cannot repeal a law that makes homosexual sex illegal.
So by that logic, the government (by not making the following illegal) are encouraging:
- Smoking.
- Alcoholism.
- Visits to your local prostitutes.
- Pre / Extra - marital sex.
- Teenage pregnancy.
- Gambling addiction.
And all because my government encourages me to do so by not making these things illegal.
*But not engage in homosexual activities because that's illegal...

It is great to say live and let live isn't it. Then WHY is it directed only to the gay population and not the the homophobic ones?
Oh yea I forgot, you can point your finger at yourself.
That's the way it is. the government cherry-pick selective references to back their arguments, but we all know they are operating double standards here. If public policy or statute laws were to be dictated by "societal values" and the "majority" (whatever or whoever these mean), then prostituition would have been made illegal and the IR plans would have fallen through. But no. Obviously the government has something esle in mind. So one moment it is the "majority" and the next moment it is "we are doing it for your own good, despite the majority who are against it."
