WTF?!

I was reading the ST forum (hazardous to one's health...I know...) and I chanced upon this gem...

I AM writing about the review of the criminal code. Minister Mentor Lee Kuan Yew's recent comments about liberalising laws regarding homosexuality have got my family and me very concerned.

My expatriate friends find Singapore a conducive place in terms of its low crime and cleanliness. More importantly, they comment that it is a wholesome place. One does not find pornography sold openly in a neighbourhood shop. Having lived in the West myself, this down-

to-earth wholesomeness is what makes Singapore special.

Singapore today faces the challenge of a declining birth rate and families are breaking down at the same time. To legalise homosexuality will compound these problems, given that homosexual couples do not reproduce.

The homosexual lobby in the West is extremely aggressive. It is the same here. Observe how it is now considered intolerant when one criticises them.

What would it be like to have a homosexual teach our children that it is normal to be gay? You might scorn the idea but this is what is happening in the West.

Homosexuals lead a promiscuous and hedonistic lifestyle. What else can you expect when you do not have children to live for or be in a loving and committed relationship? This increases the risk of STDs, Aids, etc, further increasing the risk to the general population.

Homosexuality is not going to go away. All I am saying is that we do not make it easier to be a homosexual by legalising their activities. Singapore is our home and I am proud to be Singaporean. Let us keep it a wholesome place.

Jonathan Cheng Hern Sinn

...and I was just thinking, how nice the world would be if we removed all the bigots, the racists and the idiots. I love how he automatically associates promiscuity with homosexuals while assuming that legalisation of homosexuality means that more people will become homosexual. Like it was the LAW that was stopping people from being so. I mean, it boggles the mind when one wonders how some people can grow up with such flawed logic in their heads...until one considers the flawed products of the Singaporean system.

Congratulations Mr Jonathan Cheng Hern Sinn. Now go get eaten by a crocodile so that we can become a smarter society.

Don't know who you are but I fully agree with you.

Legalising gay marriages does not mean that people will see that it is normal. This guy just loves to over-generalise.

And the fact that he thinks that singapore is a wholesome place just made me laugh out loud. This is obvously one innocent dude that hasn't heard of child pornography, family violence or drug abuse. Are we really so protected that we are blind to all this?

Geesh.

Agreed! I seriously would like to reply through the ST Forum, but I need to find ways to say that he is stupid without mentioning the word stupid. Oh well.

Oh, and by the way I just googled "Jonathan Cheng Hern Sinn " and got to your blog. Was trying to find out if I was the only one who thought that that guy had some serious errors in logic. Looks like my question's been answered.

Ha-ha-ha, LOL, where in the west did this Jonathan Cheng once lived? Sung Wu Kong's Journey to the West?

Pornography no longer needs to sold thru the neighbourhood shop - the internet has provided a more efficient distribution. Even in Spore, one can access that. Jonathan, you've been living in the past.

Homosexuality is all around Spore! You got to be an idiot not to know it - from the gay joints in Tanjong Pagar area to the foreign workers meeting places around Jalan Besar area. Don't need to be gay to know these. Just Eyes Wide Open.

I am no longer surprised by two things: (1) Singaporeans who are conservative and bigoted who justify their views on a platform of morality and social values (as if they have a monopoly on what should be considered good and right); and (2) the fact that the Straits Times incessantly gives these individuals the medium to spread their views.

I used to read the Straits Times Forum page while at University as a source of entertainment, in a rather masochistical way. I should keep up the habit.
